I always try to bring a sense of optimism and humor to the show, but stories like this still horrify me: murder charges are being prepared against a NINE-year-old in connection with an Illinois mobile home fire in April.
The juvenile is set to be charged with five counts of first-degree murder as well as two counts of arson and one count of aggravated arson. Woodford County State’s Attorney Greg Minger. "It’s a tragedy, but at the end of the day it’s charging a very young person with one of the most serious crimes we have."
Minger shared that the aggravated arson charge suggests the child suspect knew people were in the home when the fire was set. The oldest victim was 69 and the youngest was one.
Prosecutors haven't revealed any possible relationship between the juvenile and the victims. If convicted, the suspect will likely undergo mandatory therapy, psychological evaluation and counseling, but will not see jail time.
