CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa- A Cedar Rapids man's accused of holding a woman at gunpoint and forcing her to drive a car and lead police on a chase this morning.
Police say they the woman jumped out of the car at one point, and the suspect drove off, then flipped the car. Police then arrested 33-year-old Joshua Bradshaw.
Police say Bradshaw and the woman, who was not injured, know each other. Police say the woman did have a restraining order against Bradshaw.
Police say the call came in around 9:30 that a 41-year-old woman was being held against her will, at the transitional housing complex known as Inn Circle, 5560 C Street SW. The suspect reportedly had a handgun. The black Nissan Altima was spotted northbound on 6th Street SW, and authorities say the woman was driving, being held at gunpoint.
Officers arrived in the area and the victim jumped out of the car near 6th Street and Hawkeye Downs Road SW. The suspect then took off in the vehicle on Hawkeye Downs Road toward J Street SW. Police officers chased the suspect, who lost control of the car, which flipped and rolled into a tree near Haven Court and Wilson Avenue SW. Officers arrested Joshua Bradshaw, and recovered a handgun.
Bradshaw was transported to an area hospital because of minor injuries, then taken to the Linn County Jail.
Police say Bradshaw is facing charges of False Imprisonment, Felon in Possession of a Firearm, and several traffic charges.
Police Spokesman Greg Buelow says the chase lasted about eight minutes, and fortunately there was little traffic. He says it's an active investigation, but it's possible the woman may have been held against her will for more than 48-hours.
