8.8 inches of snow along I-35 in No Iowa, less in other locations MAP

DES MOINES, Iowa - The blast of winter weather won't last long in Iowa, it looks like we’ll be back in the 40s in much of the state again Sunday.

The heaviest snow was reported north of Ames, around Clarion just west of I-35 with 8.8 inches.

That heavy snow went northward towards the Minnesota border with several other reports around 8 inches, and others more like 2 and a half to 4 inches in northern Iowa... and along northernmost I-35. There were several cars off the interstate during the snow storm and traffic was slowed to about 40 miles an hour for a good hour.

Snow totals across most of Central and Eastern Iowa were on the lower end, with less than two inches around Ames, an inch at Cedar Rapids, a half inch at Iowa City, and 1.4 inches at Davenport.

The Des Moines metro got a dusting to a half-inch, a little further out to the west, north, and south up to an inch of snow is reported.

No snow is reported in the far western part of the state near Omaha.
