Heavier Amounts Of Snow Forecasted For Iowa

A large winter storm will bring two rounds of snow and blowing snow to Iowa to end the week, with some freezing rain also expected south toward the Missouri border.

The National Weather Service says the first round will happen Friday afternoon and evening through southwest, central and eastern Iowa. Brisk winds will also produce blowing snow with reduced visibilities.

After a brief break overnight, the National Weather Service says additional snow and blowing snow is anticipated from midday Saturday into early Saturday evening as the last of the storm moves through the state.

National Weather Service Meteorologist Brad Small says Des Moines is looking at a weekend snow total of 3-6 inches. Other potential totals include Ames 3-4 inches, Marshalltown 4-6 inches, Osceola and Ottumwa 6-8 inches, Cedar Rapids 8-10 inches or more and Davenport 4-6 inches.
