ARL helps as semi carrying piglets wrecks in Des Moines

DES MOINES, Iowa -- More than a dozen Animal Rescue League staffers spend Thursday afternoon in the cold after a semi-truck full of piglets over-turned on the East Mixmaster of I-80 in Des Moines.

"We want to get out there as quickly as possible so there's no unnecessary suffering going on with these animals once the roll-over happens. Unfortunately, we've had more than a fair share of them typically around that East Mixmaster area" says Animal Recue League Director Tom Colvin.

He says it's an An "all-hands-on-deck" situation for the ARL.

"Everybody leaves their other duties, whether that's desk duty our care staff all gets together, pile in and go help. It's just what we do at the Animal Rescue League" Colvin says.

He says ARL workers made sure the piglets were transferred safely from the wrecked truck and also prevented them from running out on to the intestate and causing more accidents.
