DES MOINES, Iowa - One more night of bitter cold is coming to the state tonight, with temperatures falling below zero once more and wind chills reaching the teens to lower 20's below zero, especially north and west.
The National Weather Service is advising people to dress warmly and in layers if spending any time outdoors.
The extreme cold snap will end Tuesday with afternoon highs in the upper teens to lower 20's. Wednesday's highs will be in the low to mid 30's Wednesday.
Another winter weather system will affect Iowa starting early Wednesday and continue through Saturday.
The Weather Service says the precipitation will come in waves over those days. The upcoming system will be different than the snow storm that passed through Iowa last weekend. There'll be lighter winds and warmer temperatures leading to changes in the type of precipitation.
Most of the precipitation is expected to fall as light snow. But with temperatures climbing above freezing at times, a wintry mix or rain may take the place of snow, especially in the afternoons.
The Weather Service says the warming temperatures brings considerable uncertainty to the resulting snowfall amounts.
The primary affect of the incoming system will be limited to slippery driving conditions at times.
