Bonnie of WHO's Van and Bonnie Retiring

DES MOINES, Iowa - Bonnie Lucas of Van and Bonnie in the morning shocked Des Moines and the state of Iowa this morning by announcing her retirement.

And she took time to thank station management. "They've given me a chance to travel with all these great listeners," said Bonnie. "I've been all over the world and just made so many friends traveling. And they're still all going to be my friends."

Van and Bonnie have been doing the morning show on WHO Radio for 25 and a half years, and were inducted into the Iowa Broadcasters Association Hall of Fame last year. They've also won numerous Marconi Awards, which are one of the most prestigious honors in the radio industry.

Bonnie reflected on her years of work after being inducted into the Iowa hall of fame. “This job is not work,” said Bonnie. “It’s having fun talking with your friends, inviting them into your world. It’s being in the middle of all the news that’s happening both locally and all around the world. It’s working with a co-host for decades who has been my friend for 40 years. We don’t do this for awards, but this award is extremely special.”

Bonnie's last day on the air will be March 6th.
