DAVENPORT, Iowa -- The man accused of killing a Cedar Rapids woman more than 40 years ago is guilty of 1st Degree Murder.
The jury in Davenport says Jerry Burns stabbed Michelle Martinko several times inside her family's car outside in the parking lot of Westdale Mall in December, 1979.
The jury's verdict came came about three hours after deliberations began on Monday.
Investigators used DNA gathered at the crime scene to connect Burns to the crime.
He was arrested in December , 2018 on the anniversary of the Martinko's death.
Under state law, Burns will be sentenced to life in prison on the 1st Degree Murder conviction.
