Heavy snow likely Iowa City to Quad Cities Tuesday to Wednesday SNOW MAPS

DES MOINES, Iowa - Heavy, wet snow and high winds are expected to impact driving conditions over Southeastern and Eastern Iowa Tuesday into Wednesday as a winter storm moves across the region.

Light rain this afternoon over the south will change to snow tonight and continue into Tuesday.

The snow intensity could be moderate at times, especially on Tuesday over Southeastern and Eastern Iowa, according to the National Weather Service, which is posting a Winter Storm Watch for that region (map below).

Snow accumulations are expected to be highest over far East Central Iowa from about Iowa City to the Quad Cities area, where 6 to more than 8 inches of snow is possible. The eastern stretch of I-80 from east of Des Moines through the Quad Cities area will see some of the heaviest snow.

Snow amounts lessen to an inch or two west along the I-35 corridor in central Iowa.

Winds from the north northwest will increase and cause some blowing snow reducing the visibility late Tuesday into Wednesday afternoon in Southeastern and Eastern Iowa.
