Update: Confirmed COVID-19 Case In Pottawattamie County

COUNCIL BLUFFS, Iowa - Update: Pottawattamie County officials released more information about a woman who tested positive for COVID-19.

Planning Director Matt Wyant says the woman is between 41 and 60 years of age with underlying health conditions. She had recently returned home from California.

The woman was suffering with unknown symptoms and went to the University of Nebraska Medical Center/Nebraska Medicine on Saturday, March 7th for treatment. She was tested then and the results came back positive on Monday. The woman is in quarantine at her house and is in stable condition.

Wyant says, "She worked at the local Parana Bread in Council Bluffs. Panera Bread did take the steps of notifying their employees. When the possible (test) came across, they took a step I complement them on. They shut down their facility and they are going through the cleaning process now to disinfect it."

There are still a lot of unknowns. Wyant says, "There is an investigative process that each of these cases undergoes. As we get more information we can pump out and get to the public as soon as we can we will. We have an internal group that works with our health system partners and local community members and business owners. We will work as fast as we can."

Details on where she visited in California, when she returned, who she had contact with and if she worked while ill is still under investigation.

The Pottawattamie County Health Department has confirmed the first local case of COVID-19.

Pottawattamie County Emergency Management will be joined by CHI Health and Methodist Health Systems with representatives from the health department at 5 p.m. Monday to provide more details.
