Prosecutors in central Iowa are pushing ahead with attempted murder charges against a Davenport man for a weekend shooting that nearly injured two deputies.
The Iowa County Sheriff says around 10:00 Friday night deputies found a car that was reported stolen from Davenport on fire along I-80. That vehicle was reportedly involved in an armed robbery earlier on Friday.
At the time deputies found no one around the car. At around 5:45 Saturday morning, Iowa County Deputies spotted 31-year-old Jeremy Krapp walking along I-80 in the same area as the car fire.
The sheriff's department says shortly after deputies located Krapp, he pulled a gun and ran into a field. The sheriff's office says a few minutes later he fired at a law enforcement vehicle. A window in the vehicle was shattered and two officers were close to being struck.
Sheriff's deputies called in a drone and an armored car. Krapp eventually surrendered. He was arrested and charged with two counts of attempted murder, two counts of assaulting peace officers while displaying a firearm, being a felon in possession of a firearm and possession of a controlled substance.
Krapp is being held at the Iowa County Jail.
