Ames City Council Rejects E-Scooters

AMES, Iowa - Ames won't be getting an electric scooter program in the near future.

The city council rejected a proposed e-scooter pilot program during Tuesday night's meeting by a split three-to-three vote.

The Ames Tribune reports opponents to the program brought up safety concerns, while supporters claimed it would enhance city recreation.

The city council will now consider an ordinance that deals with other micro-mobility travel.

The Iowa State University Student Government passed a resolution in 2018 that barred motorized scooters on campus. The ban was put in place over safety concerns that scooters would block pedestrian pathways, and would be left on sidewalks and bike pathways on campus.
