DES MOINES, Iowa - The Iowa Department of Human Services (DHS) says it's focused on protecting its workers during the COVID-19/coronavirus pandemic.
The department says it's implementing tele-work for its workers that provide direct care support to clients, a practice it previously has not promoted. DHS says it has increased screening, suspended in-person visitation and is putting additional cleaning and sanitation in place at its facilities. It's providing options such as FaceTime and Skype for family members and guardians who wish to see and speak with their loved ones. It's asking the public to call ahead before visiting local offices for assistance or find out more information on services online.
The department is providing financial assistance to childcare providers and is trying to boost childcare availability to address an increase in needs during the coronavirus pandemic. It's also shifting its focus away from facility inspections to providing resources for hygiene and sanitation.
