West Des Moines Closes City Hall, Other Buildings

WEST DES MOINES, Iowa - The city of West Des Moines is closing its City Hall and several other city building over health concerns during the COVID-19/coronavirus pandemic.

City Manager Tom Hadden announced the closures after receiving authorization through a proclamation by Mayor Steve Gaer.

West Des Moines City Hall is closed starting Thursday, and is tentatively scheduled to reopen in mid or late April.

The West Des Moines Public Services building at 560 South 16thStreet, as well as the Raccoon River Park Nature Lodge and the Valley Junction Activity Center will also be closed to the public.

Many city employees will continue work from home, but some will still be working their shifts at city hall to answer phones and conduct business online with residents. "All our employees will be following CDC social distancing guidelines and recommendations because we want to make sure we’re doing everything at work and at home to slow down and prevent the spread of this virus,” said Hadden.
