DES MOINES, Iowa - Governor Kim Reynolds has announced that Iowa salons, barber shops, medical spas, massage therapists, tattoo shops and swimming pools will be closed until March 31. Reynolds revealed the order at a Sunday afternoon press conference.
She said she signed an executive order that would take effect at 10 p.m. Sunday. Reynolds also suspended foreclosures on residential, commercial and agriculture properties.
In addition, the state Department of Human Services (DHS) has issued guidelines for child care. It says parents working from home should keep their children with them. It also directed day-care providers to take the temperatures of children as they arrive each morning, sending home those running fevers.
DHS also is also encouraging childcare settings to limit rooms to 10 individuals per room when possible, and to increase space between children. It says that recess, activities and hallway passing should be staggered to limit interactions.
During her news conference Sunday, Governor Reynolds stated several times that she was not considering a "stay at home" mandate, which has been ordered by several states, including neighboring Illinois.
