DES MOINES, Iowa - Des Moines Public Schools is looking at closing down for the rest of the school year.
Superintendent Thomas Ahart issued a statement after a school board virtual meeting, expressing his intention for in-person classes to be suspended in favor distance learning.
Ahart cited Governor Reynolds' recommendation that schools remain closed through the end of April in his statement.
"I believe that re-opening our school doors before the COVID-19 pandemic may have even reached its peak in Polk County is not in the best interest of the health and well-being of this community," said Ahart.
