Des Moines Realtors Report Strong Sales Gains During Virus Outbreak

DES MOINES, Iowa - The Des Moines Area Association of REALTORS® (DMAAR) has reported strong home sales despite the COVID-19/cornoavirus outbreak. It says March sales rose by 15.9 percent from the previous year.

In a recent news letter,association president Lance Hanson said activity slowed in the second half of March. He said buyer behavior has been altered dramatically, with many taking advantage of virtual tours and online videos in choosing properties.

The realtor's association reports 1,051 properties were sold in March, compared to 907 in March 2019. The average number of days on the market decreased by nearly 12 percent, while the median price rose 2.4 percent - to $215,000 from $209,000 in March 2019.

The number of properties available rose 5.6% from last March with 3,487 homes on the market.
