Iowa's Secretary of State pushes absentee voting in June primary

DES MOINES, Iowa -- As Iowa makes it's way through the COVID-19 coronavirus outbreak, the Secretary of State wants people to vote from home in June's primary election.

"Frankly, we had to make some decision early on, and when we did that we had to base it on what we had in front of us. Not knowing when the coronavirus was going to peak, absentee was the logical way" says Iowa Secretary of State Paul Pate.

He says his office is sending absentee ballot request forms to every active registered voter in the state.

"It'll have 'From the Iowa Secretary of State's Office' and it'll be labeled 'Vote Safe Iowa.' It's quick and easy to fill out--just take a few minutes to fill out the information. Your county auditor will get you a ballot, and you can return it all from the safety of your own home" Pate says

Iowa's primary election day is June 2nd.
