DES MOINES, Iowa - The Iowa Department of Public Health (IDPH) reports 648 new cases COVID-19/coronavirus, a new daily high in the state for the second day in a row. Five-hundred and twenty-one cases were reported Friday.
Five new deaths are reported, down from a statewide high Friday of 11.
The state now has for a total of 5,092 positive cases, and 112 deaths.
There have been an additional 1,730 negative tests for a total of 29,258 negative tests to date.
The state says the number of positive cases will continue to grow as Test Iowa sites open and additional surveillance testing of large businesses and nursing home staff continues.
Currently, 1 in 91 Iowans have been tested for the virus.
There are currently 293 people hospitalized, and 1,723 Iowans have recovered.
The state health department the 5 deaths in the following counties:
- Black Hawk County, 1 middle-age adult (41-60 years)
- Johnson County, 1 older adult (61-80 years)
- Polk County, 1 older adult (61-80 years), 1 elderly adult (81+)
- Scott County, 1 elderly adult (81+)
The state has also corrected itself, noting that a previously identified case in Clinton County was actually resident of Illinois.
