Nine more COVID-19 deaths in Iowa, 508 new cases

DES MOINES, Iowa -- Iowa has 508 new COVID-19 coronavirus cases with nine additional deaths.

The Iowa Department of Public Health the deaths are older and elderly adults in Black Hawk, Linn, Muscatine. Polk, and Story counties.

The virus has killed 136 people in Iowa.

The state says there are coronavirus outbreaks in seven more long term care facilities--including the Iowa Veterans home in Marshalltown. Outbreaks have now been detected in 23 long-term care facilities across the state.

Public Health says more than 6,300 people have tested positive for COVID-19 coronavirus. Nearly 2,200 people have recovered.

Health officials predicted a spike in new cases as testing increases.
