DES MOINES, Iowa - The downtown Des Moines Farmers' Market is not holding its outdoor gathering this weekend, despite Governor Kim Reynolds' proclamation allowing it to do so.
It's instead kicking off its season with a virtual market Saturday on Facebook. The Market says it's partnering with DSM TV to host a live hour-long virtual Market Meet-Up, which will take the place of the outdoor market for the first three Saturdays on its 2020 schedule.
Governor Reynolds announced last Friday that farmers' markets would be allowed to open up in the coming weeks as the state continues to battle the COVID-19 outbreak.
The downtown Farmers' Market says the virtual market will showcase vendors and their products, and include details on how to buy those products. It'll also have in-season cooking demos and recipes, and live musicians and entertainment.
The virtual market is scheduled to take place at 8 am Saturday on the Downtown Des Moines Farmer's Market Facebook page.
