Iowa COVID-19 coronavirus cases near 10,000

DES MOINES, Iowa -- Iowa is approaching 10,000 cases of COVID-19 coronavirus.

The Public Health Department says 534 new cases on Monday pushes the state's total to 9,703.

The state says 85 percent of new positive cases are in the 22 counties where restrictions remain in place.

The department also says four more Iowans died from COVID-19, bringing the state total to 188 deaths. The new fatalities are older and elderly adults in Appanoose, Jasper, Poweshiek and Wapello counties

IDPH says 389 are currently hospitalized, and 4.486 Iowans, or about 36 percent, have recovered.
