Iowa Gym Cited for Opening Against Gov. Reynolds COVID-19 Order

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - A Cedar Rapids gym owner has been cited by police for opening his business in violation of an emergency proclamation from Governor Kim Reynolds.

Custom Fitness owner Jason Bailey was given a misdemeanor citation Tuesday for ignoring the state's order limiting gym occupancy to one person at a time in 22 counties.

KCRG-TV reports officers observed several people working out inside the gym on Tuesday morning, and that Bailey told them he admitted to ignoring the order. Bailey had earlier said that Governor Reynolds proclamation to limit occupancy is a violation of his First Amendment right to assembly.

The 49-year-old Bailey will make a court appearance on June 25. He could get a fine of up to $625.

Governor Reynolds says she'll possibly ease more COVID-19 restrictions this week, which could include the limit on gym occupancy in the 22 counties.
