DES MOINES, Iowa - The state's extending a $1.3 million COVID-19 grant program for arts and culture.
The Iowa Department of Cultural Affairs says the grants are meant to help arts projects and preserve jobs in cultural organizations.
Last month, it awarded almost $200,000 in grants to 156 Iowa artists and non-profit groups, which included community theaters, choirs, youth arts groups, a documentary filmmaker and a blues musician.
The grants are being funded by the 2020 Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act.
The new deadline to apply for a grant in the program is May 25th.
The Iowa Department of Cultural Affairs is also partnering with the National Endowment for the Humanities to award federal 2020 grants.
