LIME SPRINGS, Iowa - The state health department says a COVID-19 outbreak occurred at the Upper Iowa Beef processing plant in Lime Springs, near the Minnesota boarder.
The plant was closed of one day in April, but is mostly fully operational now.
More than 100 people work at Upper Iowa Beef, and at least 10 tested positive for the virus. Several workers have been sick as a result.
The state has reported virus outbreaks at four meat processing plants where 1,653 workers have tested positive for coronavirus. Those plants are Tyson facilities in Columbus Junction, Perry and Waterloo, and the Iowa Premium plant in Tama.
Health officials in Black Hawk County identified more than 1,000 COVID-19 cases at the Waterloo plant.
Governor Kim Reynolds announced more loosening of virus restrictions statewide Wednesday, the same day the state acknowledged the outbreak had occurred at the Lime Springs processing plant.
