18 New Covid-19 Deaths in Iowa, 374 Additional cases

DES MOINES, Iowa - The state's reporting 74 new cases of COVID-19/coronavirus and 18 new deaths as of Friday.

The total number of positive case is now 13,675, while there have been 318 deaths in Iowa due to the virus.

There have been 93,556 COVID-19 tests conducted in Iowa.

There were 4,372 new tests reported. Governor Reynolds said this week that with the validation of the TestIowa program by the State Hygienic Lab, tests would ramp up to 5,000 per day - 3,000 by TestIowa and 2,000 from the Hygienic Lab.

The 18 new deaths is one short of a daily reported high mark of 19. There were also 18 deaths reported Wednesday.

The rate of positive tests has inched down from 15.3 percent Thursday to 15 percent Friday. The state reports that 1-in-34 Iowans has been tested and 1-in-223 has tested positive.

There are 387 people hospitalized with COVID-19 in Iowa, with 130 patients in ICU. A total of 87 people are on ventilators. All three of those numbers are down slightly from Thursday.

There have been 6,561 COVID-19 recoveries in Iowa, an increase from 6,231 Thursday. The state's recovery rate is 48 percent.

The positive COVID-19 cases reported by the health department represent diagnosed individuals, not necessarily the total number of cases in the state.
