WAUKEE, Iowa - The Waukee Community School District is re-starting its meal program Thursday after suspending operations Monday because of a worker with COVID-19.
The district says the worker never had direct contact with families or food. Other employees who had contact with the worker are self isolating.
The district also says it has cleaned, sanitized, and disinfected all of its food production areas.
It distributes meals from three locations - Waukee High School, Windfield Apartments, and Sun Prairie Apartments. No meals will be distributed Memorial Day, which is Monday.
The Waukee district says it's served 68,000 meals since March 23rd. The meals took the place of free and low-cost lunches that went away when Governor Kim Reyolds closed down school in mid-March because of the COVID-19 outbreak.
The district also says it's served 15,000-weekend meals from Meals from the Heartland over the same time period.
