DES MOINES, Iowa - The Polk County Health Department is shutting down its coronavirus 2-1-1 hotline Friday.
The department says the healthcare system has now adjusted to the ongoing demands of COVID-19 and the numbers of calls to the 2-1-1 line has decreased.
It started the hotline in mid-March to ease the burden of calls to local clinics and hospitals as the pandemic took hold. Nurses and medical students have been staffing the phone line to answer questions and concerns about the virus.
The United Way continues to operate a statewide 2-1-1 service that covers a wide variety of needs.
