DES MOINES, Iowa - Weekly jobless claims are up in Iowa after they dropped for two consecutive weeks.
Number released Thursday morning by the U.S. Labor department show first time unemployment claims increased by about 2.530, to 14,586 from 12,056.
But ongoing claims for jobless benefits, which reflects the unemployment rate, are down by nearly 4,000. The continuing claims in Iowa fell by 3,963 - from 184,641 to 180,679.
Ongoing jobless claims are up again after they dropped the previous week for the first time since the COVID-19 pandemic began.
Unemployment insurance benefit payments totaled $48,828,481.83 for the the most recent week, down from $50,962,509,01 in the previous weel.
The following industries had the most claims:
- Manufacturing (3,835)
- Industry Not Available - Self-employed, Independent Contractors, etc. (2,382)
- Health Care & Social Assistance (1,399)
- Retail Trade (923)
- Accommodation & Food Services (898)
