DES MOINES, Iowa - There was no violence or use of force during Tuesday night protests in Des Moines over the death of George Floyd in Minneapolis.
The Des Moines Register reports demonstrators formed a human chain to prevent others from getting closer to police at the steps of the state capitol at around 11:30 p.m. Protesters cleared the area at roughly 12:15 a.m., after police read an order to disperse for a third time.
Des Moines Police had used tear gas and flash bangs the four previous nights to break up crowds as well as looting and vandalism at protest sites in the city.
The protesters Tuesday night were allowed to march and gather together for more than three hours after a 9 pm. county curfew went into effect.
The Register reports that 1,000 people took part in Tuesday's demonstrations, which included a scene where officers took off their riot gear and stood in solidarity with protesters.
