DES MOINES - The TestIowa COVID-19 testing program is expanding to 15 locations this week. The $26 million program was introduced by Governor Kim Reynolds after two Utah based companies were given no bid contracts to implement it. Reynolds said the goal was to reach 5,000 COVID-19 tests per day statewide, a benchmark that has not consistently been met.
The new testing sights opening this week include one in Dallas County to better serve the Des Moines metro area, and four clinic sites in rural communities.
The Dallas County drive-thru site opened Monday at Waukee at South Middle School in Waukee - 2350 SE LA Grant Parkway. Its hours of operation are 12 noon-6 p.m. Individuals must complete the assessment at testiowa.com and schedule an appointment online to be tested.
The four new rural sites will serve Page, Union, Carroll and Crawford counties. All the TestIowa sites are partnerships between the state and local health care providers which are intended to increase testing access in their communities. Clinics operate and staff the test sites. The state provides testing supplies and processes the samples through the State Hygienic Lab.
The new rural testing sites are below:
- Page County: Clarinda Regional Health Center, 220 Essie Davison Dr., Clarinda, opened June 3
- Union County: Greater Regional Health, 801 Wyoming Ave., Creston, opens Mon., June 8
