Flash Flood Watch in Iowa as Remnants of Cristobal Pass Through State

DES MOINES, Iowa - A Flash Flood Watch in effect today and tonight for central & eastern Iowa as the remnants of tropical depression Cristobal passes through Iowa.

There's a potential for heavy rainfall of up to 2-4 inches inside the watch area which could lead to flash flooding.

A few strong to severe storms remain possible, especially in the southwest this evening. Longer term river flooding possible over the latter half of the week.

The area of heaviest precipitation has shifted westward into central Iowa, and the Flash Flood Watch is slightly expanded west to the I-35 corridor. Included is a slight risk of severe storms in far southwest Iowa.

The timing of the main threats is from 6 pm to 11 pm this evening.

Threats include large hail, damaging winds and an isolated tornado. The Flash Flood Watch is in effect until 7 a.m. Wednesday.
