IOWA CITY, Iowa - Demonstrations are continuing in Iowa City after the death of George Floyd in Minneapolis last month.
A Monday night gathering did not go to a nearby interstate highway as previous marches had. Organizers also asked participants not to spray paint graffiti after parts of city and the University of Iowa were vandalized over the weekend.
The three hour march between 7:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m. came shortly after the Iowa Freedom Riders Instagram posted a list of demands for the city council and police department to meet.
The 12 demands included dropping all charges against protesters, a strong statement from police in favor of protests and publication of the police department's budget.
The post also included demands for the Iowa City School Board and Governor Kim Reynolds. The three demands for Governor Reynolds were a decriminalization of marijuana, a reduction of probation length for ex-convicts and a lifting of a curfew in Coralville.
