DES MOINES, Iowa - Wooly's in Des Moines' East Village has cancelled its first live show since COVID-19 restrictions shutdown concert venues in March.
The nightspot says it called off country singer Cody Hicks' show scheduled for Friday because of his repeated comments with racial undertones and negative rhetoric toward protests.
On it's Facebook page, Wooly's said it wouldn't give its stage to someone who "repeatedly paints protestors with the brush of violent looters and rioters". It quoted Hicks as saying, “if black lives matter so much, why do they keep killing each other”, and stated that the comment doesn't align with their values.
Hicks claims he was cancelled for supporting police. On his Facebook page, Hicks said he's saddened that he's "not allowed to support the men and women in blue without having venues take income from me based on my personal opinion."
