Prominent Des Moines Art Museum to Reopen from COVID-19 Shutdown

DES MOINES, Iowa - A prominent art museum in central Iowa is reopening its doors after being shutdown by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Des Moines Art Center plans to open on Tuesday, July 6th with safety measures to address concerns about the virus.

Visitors will be required to wear masks when inside the Center, while staff members will be required to wears masks when outside individual offices,

Plans also include a designated path through the museum to ensure social distancing and access to all the galleries, The Art Center says there'll be onsite signs and a website description of the pathway.

In addition, the museum plans to boost cleaning and sanitizing, especially in frequent contact areas and travel paths.

The Art Center says it'll reintroduce indoor group activities and guided tours in the fall, and it plans to reopen its shop and restaurant later in the summer.

The museum is still offering virtual tours and online summer classes and camps for people who choose not make an in-person visit,
