DES MOINES, Iowa - A group formed by Governor Kim Reynolds is looking into anti racial profiling recommendations for the state.
Iowas’ FOCUS committee on Criminal Justice Reform met for the first time over Zoom Wednesday.
Legal specialists from the Iowa-Nebraska NAACP discussed a state senate bill to ban police profiling that failed to gain traction in 2018.
The group, which is led by Lt. Governor Adam Gregg, did not take any action but will meet again in July.
It's focused on making recommendations for Governor Reynolds legislative agenda in the next session in 2021.
Reynolds formed the committee last fall to look at reducing bias and repeat offenders in the criminal justice system.
More than 30 other states have passed some form of anti-racial profiling legislation, according to a statement from the American Civil Liberties Union of Iowa.
