298 New COVID-19 Cases in Iowa, 2 Additional Deaths

DES MOINES, Iowa - The are 298 new cases of COVID-19 in Iowa as of Monday at 10 a.m., and three additional deaths.

There are 28,728 total cases, as 4,569 tests were conducted Sunday with a positive test rate for the day of 5.9 percent.

Daily reported deaths and hospitalizations have generally been falling over the past several weeks.

Iowa officials have acknowledged a rise in cases among adults age 18-40.

Reynolds said that age group has always led others, in terms of positive cases. The positive rate among this group has gone from 41-percent in April to 45-percent in May, and 55-percent this month, in June.

A total of 300,427 COVID-19 tests conducted in Iowa, and one-in-11 Iowans has been tested.

There have been 17,711 recoveries from the virus in the state, with a recovery rate of 62 percent.

The state is reporting COVID-19 outbreaks at 26 long term care centers, down five from earlier in the week. There have been 362 long term care center deaths, accounting for 51 percent of the state total.

There are 119 hospitalizations from the virus, an increase of one from Sunday. There are 35 ICU patients with 18 on ventilators.

The numbers for the state only represent COVID-19 figures compiled by the Iowa Department of Public Health. Unreported cases and deaths could make the actual figures different.
