DES MOINES, Iowa - The group Iowa Educators for a Safe Return to School is asking Hy-Vee to require customers to wear face masks.
The Des Moines based grocery chain has required its employees to wear masks since late April, and gave away masks at its Iowa stores on a date in late May.
The group now says Hy-Vee should follow the example of Walmart, which announced Wednesday it would start requiring customers to wear masks.
Iowa Educators for a Safe Return to School also asked its facebook followers earlier this week to call Governor Kim Reynolds and demand that she mandate masks in Iowa.
The group says it started on June 26th, "after the Iowa Department of Education failed to provide adequate guidance to schools" before classes start amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
It's posted the phone numbers to the offices of Governor Reynolds and Hy-Vee CEO Randy Edeker on its facebook page.
