DES MOINES, Iowa — High temperatures into the mid-90s with humid conditions today will result in heat index values over 100°F by this afternoon.
The National Weather Service warns people can become quickly dehydrated in the extreme heat.
Make plans to complete strenuous work or leisure activities during the morning hours. Seek shade or an air-conditioned location during peak heat between 1 pm and 7 pm.
Make sure pets have access to shade and water. Look twice before exiting your vehicle to ensure you didn't leave a child, elderly individual or pet in the back seat.
Remember to stay hydrated, take breaks in the shade or AC, and check up on relatives and neighbors.
