Iowa Daily COVID-19 Deaths Remain Low, 512 New Cases

DES MOINES, Iowa - There is five new deaths from COVID-19 in Iowa and 512 additional positive cases of the virus as of Tuesday at 10 a.m.

There are 39,412 total cases, as 3,728 tests were conducted Monday. The positive test rate is currently 6.4 percent.

There have been a total of 798 deaths statewide. Daily reported deaths and hospitalizations have generally been falling over the past several weeks, with daily totals in single-digits.

Iowa officials have acknowledged a rise in cases among adults age 18-40.

A total of 423,221 COVID-19 tests have been conducted in Iowa, and one-in-seven Iowans has been tested.

There have been 28,307 recoveries from the virus in the state. Governor Reynolds announced several weeks ago that the metrics for determining recoveries was changed. Because of the change, the recovery rate jumped from 62 percent to roughly 80 percent .

The state is reporting COVID-19 outbreaks at 17 long term care centers. Long term center outbreaks have dropped sharply from as much as 36 earlier this year. There have been 427 long term care center deaths, accounting for 53 percent of the state total.

There are 223 hospitalizations from the virus. There are 74 ICU patients with 32 on ventilators.
