DES MOINES, Iowa - There is five new deaths from COVID-19 in Iowa and 451 additional positive cases of the virus as of Friday at 10 a.m.
There are 40,509 total cases, as 6,534 tests were conducted Thursday. The positive test rate is currently 7.4 percent.
There have been a total of 820 deaths statewide. Daily reported deaths and hospitalizations have generally been falling over the past several weeks, with daily totals in single-digits.
Iowa officials have acknowledged a rise in cases among adults age 18-40.
A total of 441,256 COVID-19 tests have been conducted in Iowa, and one-in-seven Iowans has been tested.
There have been 29,148 recoveries from the virus in the state. Governor Reynolds announced several weeks ago that the metrics for determining recoveries was changed. Because of the change, the recovery rate jumped from 62 percent to roughly 80 percent .
The state is reporting COVID-19 outbreaks at 21 long term care centers Thursday, equal to the number reported the day before. Long term care outbreaks have started to climb recently after sharply dropping from as much as 36 earlier this year. There have been 441 long term care center deaths, accounting for 53 percent of the state total.
There are 230 hospitalizations from the virus. There are 72 ICU patients with 27 on ventilators.
