COVID-19 Outbreak Expands at Newton Long Term Care Center

NEWTON, Iowa - A central Iowa long term care center continues to suffer from a COVID-19 outbreak.

The Newton Health Care Center in Jasper County reports eight new cases of the virus, bringing its total to 52.

The center reported that the new cases are a result of a second round of testing, and that five residents have died from the virus.

The Newton Health Care Center first reported its COVID-19 outbreak a week ago. At the time, there were no deaths at the facility.

The center says it'll "continue to work tirelessly to provide compassionate care to all our Residents."

It's reporting 24 recoveries of patients, while 12 staff members have tested positive, with six having recovered.
