Motorcyclist Dead in Des Moines Crash; Car Driver Caught After Fleeing

DES MOINES, Iowa - A motorcyclist is dead after a crash with a man driving a stolen car Sunday night in Des Moines.

Police were called to the scene in the 2400 block of Martin Luther King Jr Parkway at about 8:30 pm. Officers arrived to find that the car involved had fled the scene of the initial crash and crashed a second time into a building a block away on MLK Jr Parkway.

The driver, who is a 52-year-old man, fled the scene on foot but was caught by police nearby. He was taken to a hospital with minor injuries, while the car he was driving was determined to have been stolen.

The 51-year-old man who was driving the motorcycle was given life saving treatment on the scene before being taken to a hospital, where he later died.

The Des Moines Police Department Traffic Unit has continued to investigate the crash, and closed down MLK Jr Parkway for several hours afterward.
