AMES, Iowa - Iowa State University has a campaign aimed at student safety after large gatherings near campus over the weekend.
ISU President Wendy Wintersteen sent an email to students Monday warning against large parties.
“Disregarding health and safety measures puts our community at risk and it jeopardizes our chances for successfully completing the semester in November,” Winstersteen wrote.
Social media sites featured pictures and videos of large gatherings during "801 day," which is an annual party on the Saturday before school starts in Ames.
Wintersteen's email referenced the school's Cyclones Care campaign to encourage health measures during the COVID-19 pandemic, and mentioned its "Party Smart, Show You Care" guidelines to reduce virus risks.
Iowa State University required face coverings in campus buildings and on-campus property and where physical distancing is not possible, but has no policy in place for students and faculty when off campus.
