AMES, Iowa -- The Ames Community School District is joining the list of school districts suing the state of Iowa for denying a plan to start classes mostly on-line.
The Ames school board voted to take legal action after the Iowa Department of Education denied a plan to have kids in buildings one day a week, then learn on-line the rest of the week.
The board says it doesn't think the metrics being used by the state departments of education and public health do enough to keep student, staff and community safe.
The district says the state's denial of it's return-to-learn plan undermines the tradition of letting local school boards in make the decisions that are best for their students.
School districts in Des Moines and Iowa City are also suing the state after their mostly on-line back-to-school plans were denied.
