IOWA - The state saw a large drop in daily reported COVID-19 cases as of Monday at 10 am, after several days at or near four-digit totals.
There were 611 new cases reported by the Iowa Department of Health Monday. A high point was reached last Thursday with 1,432 cases.
A total of 64,713 Iowans have now tested positive for COVID-19 since the state started tracking those numbers in March.
Two more people in the state have died from complications of COVID-19, with 1,112 total deaths since March. Of those, 598, roughly 54 percent, have been residents of long term care facilities. There are currently 36 outbreaks at long term care facilities in Iowa.
Twelve Iowa counties now have a two-week average positive rate of more than 15 percent, including Plymouth, Johnson, Sioux, Story, Howard, Carroll, Lee, Marion, Fremont, Wayne, Crawford and Clinton counties.
School districts are allowed to ask the state for a waiver to conduct classes completely online once county positivity rates reach 15 percent, and class absentee levels reach 10 percent. They're otherwise required to hold 50 percent of classes in-person.
