Only 25,000 fans allowed for ISU's home football opener

AMES, Iowa -- Iowa State University's football stadium will be less than half full for the Cyclones' season opener.

Athletic Director Jamie Pollard says about 25,000 season ticket holders will be in the Jack Trice Stadium stands for the September 12th game against Louisiana.

Pollard says COVID-19 social distancing means fans will be more spread out in the stadium.

He also says fans are asked to stay in their seats as much as possible, there won't be tailgating before the game, and everyone in the stadium has to wear a face mask.

Pollard says if the COVID-19 mitigation rules are followed for the first game, all season ticket holders will be allowed in for the October 3rd game against Oklahoma.

If the rules aren't followed, he says no fans will allowed in the stadium starting with the Oklahoma game.

Rankings compiled by the New York Times show that, relative to population, Ames has the nation's largest number of new COVID-19 cases in the last two weeks.
