IOWA - A new study gives Iowa low marks for social distancing during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The report from Top Data uses publicly-available cell phone location information to figure the frequency that people interact with other people.
It shows Iowans ranks 42nd at reducing personal contact from year ago, before the pandemic took hold.
On the plus side, the study shows Iowa residents were already interacting with fewer people per day than most other states.
The report ranks California number one in reducing the number of interactions from a year ago. But Californians were interacting with more than 13 other people per day in 2019, while Iowans came in contact with fewer than three people. The study shows Californians now interact with about three people per day, while Iowans come in contact with about two people.
