DES MOINES, Iowa - The Department of Natural Resources is celebrating the 100th anniversary of Iowa Parks with a Statewide Volunteer Day.
The public is being asked to help clean-up parks after the busy summer season, and last month's derecho storm.
More than 30 parks across the state are hosting Volunteer Day this Saturday.
The state's looking for help picking up tree limbs and debris, planting trees and clearing trails.
“Iowa state parks are important places many people enjoy for their natural beauty and outdoor recreation,” said State Parks, Forests and Preserves Bureau chief Todd Coffelt. “We know volunteering in state parks is important to many people who want care for them, and Statewide Volunteer Day is a great opportunity to lend a hand.”
Anyone interested in volunteering can learn more here. If the weather becomes an issue on Saturday, volunteers should contact their individual park in case changes are made.
