DES MOINES, Iowa - The Des Moines School Board is meeting tonight to finalize a plan for in-person classes.
Students are now learning online, which is not in compliance with the state's requirement for half of all classes to be in-person.
The district's current plan won't have students in classrooms for a couple of weeks, with high school not scheduled to start in-person until November.
A central issue in tonight's meeting is the district's COVID-10 policy for allowing in-person classes.
The district has pegged a 7.5-percent positivity rate in Polk County as a trigger to require online only classes.
The state has set a much higher threshold at 15-percent, along with an absentee rate of 10 percent at a district's schools before it can apply for a waiver to stop in-person classes.
